DISPLAYMANAGER and WINDOWSMANAGER

Change of Display Manager#

Pass root

sudo -i

Then open /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager with a text editor.

vim /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager

Display Manager can be changed at line DISPLAYMANAGER="XXX"

Display Manager also called Login Manager can be modified as explained previously.

Main managers are:

• LightDM for Unity
• GDM for GNOME
• KDM for KDE
• XDM for X Window
• Entrance for Enlightenment

If you have trouble with a manager you can temporarily replace it with xdm : DISPLAYMANAGER="xdm".

Change of Window Manager#

To change of window manager laso called desktop manager, open /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager.

vim /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager

At line DEFAULT_WM="XXX",replace XXX with one of these manager : gnome, kde, xfce, lxde, enlightenment, icewm, cinnamon. For example DEFAULT_WM="xfce".

The a reboot it's needed.
